Investor's Business Daily - Abbott Labs , a pharmaceutical firm, is withdrawing its diet pill Meridia in the U.S. and Canada, at the FDA's request, almost a year after studies showed it increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with a history of heart disease. Meridia was removed from European markets earlier this year. Abbott dipped 0.4% to 52.81.
