Religion eventually becomes a woman's permanent quest in "Higher Ground," Vera Farmiga's challenging film based on a memoir by Carolyn Briggs. It's a film that takes us from a child's sense of wonder to an adulthood in which lead character Corinne falls in with the 1960s and '70s hippie strain of fundamentalist Christianity.
