The Detroit Repertory Theatre had one of its biggest critical successes with John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt" last year. Its presentation of the playwright's most recent work, "Defiance," benefits from similarly passionate performances and taut direction by Bruce Millan, but they can only do so much with the thoughtful, if often meandering, script.
