ContributorNetwork - The Patriot Act extension was technically inevitable, although it came down to the final minutes. While Sen. Rand Paul held things up with a filibuster over the controversial act, the extension passed by a wide margin once he stopped talking. For all of the heated rhetoric over the measure in the last decade, it still got renewed for the next four years by 72-23 in the Senate and 250-123 in the House.
