As dozens of Wilmington area nursing scholarship winners over the past 32 years can attest, the good performed by World War I nurses more than 90 years ago has not been forgotten. Since 1979, the local chapter of “The Forty and Eight Society,” has awarded 72 nursing scholarships of $1,000 each, 51 scholarships to UNCW and 21 to Cape Fear Community College.
