BusinessWeek - Robert Verrone is standing on the roof of an office building in midtown Manhattan. In his hand is a list of commercial properties, almost all of which he financed through securitization, the now-infamous process through which debt is minced and extruded into bonds that can be bought and sold by Wall Street traders. During the real estate boom, Verrone was head of Wachovia Bank's large loan group, and on this August afternoon he has come up to the roof to point out some of his biggest deals.
