Investor's Business Daily - Only 5% of social-networking Web site users regularly turn to their online hangouts for guidance on purchases, says a study by research firm Knowledge Networks. In addition, just 16% say they're more likely to buy from firms that place ads on social media Web sites. These findings underscore some of the challenges that social networks face with any advertising-based business model, even as the sites grow more popular. The study found 83% of Internet users ages 13-54 used social sites like Facebook, with 47% using them weekly.
